Archival Collections and Resources

About the Archives

Accessing our archives is a critical service the Library provides. The archives provide historical information about the Caro community, their residents, and some archived information about the surrounding areas. Access to microfilm, historical files, detailed history books, census data, and more are available at the Library. We also provide genealogy and research assistance.

Archives Policies

An important obligation of the archives is to protect the archival collections and resources for the use of future generations. Therefore, the following rules will apply to persons using the collections:

  • The user must be at least 18 years of age, and be able to provide identification upon request.
  • Materials will be used only in the assigned archival reading area or in view of the circulation desk.
  • Archival materials cannot be taken from the Library.
  • Materials are to be used only by the person who requested them. Archival materials will be made available one item at a time. The item must be returned before another is made available.
  • The materials may be fragile and must be handled with care and respect.
  • Materials cannot be written on, cut, torn, folded, or in any way damaged. Some materials may only be handled by Library staff.
  • Be prepared to hand-copy the information you want from the archives, and please consult the Library staff before making copies of archival materials.
  • Archival materials, and an individual's privilege to access the materials, may be withdrawn at any time by the Library in order to protect the collections.
