Services
In addition to printed and audio-visual materials, the Library offers several services to the community. Those services can be grouped into a few categories:
Computers
Computers are available for children’s games and for Internet access, word processing and other applications. There is also a scanner.
Printing
Printing cost 10 cents per page for black and white items up to 30 pages, 25 cents after. Colored copies are 75 cents per page up to 15, $1.00 after.
Computers are available for up to one hour (30 minutes on school day afternoons) per person. If there is nobody waiting to use a computer when your time is up, you may continue to use it.
Restrictions on computer use are: no chat, no downloads, no Internet games.
E-Books and Audiobooks
As a supplement to our physical collection, the Library has digital materials available for download. These materials are hosted from OverDrive, a service which is linked at the top of our website.
OverDrive supports a large range of audio devices and E-readers, including Apple's products, Amazon's Kindles, Barnes and Noble's Nooks, and many more. While a device is not needed, many patrons enjoy their materials outside and away from a computer. A material can be transferred from a computer to a device or downloaded directly to some devices. Some audiobooks can be burnt to CDs: click on a material in OverDrive to find out.
Patrons are limited to 5 E-books and audiobooks at one time. These materials can be checked out for up to 14 days. E-books can be returned to the Library early at any time to allow more checkouts. Audiobooks can be checked out for either 7 or 14 days but cannot be returned early.
Equipment
The Library makes available some office equipment, including a copy machine and fax machine.
The charges for copies from the copy machine are as follows: Black and white copies are 10 cents each for the first 30, then 25 cents per page. Colored copies are 75 cents for up to 15 copies then $1.00 per page.
The charge for faxes is $1.00 per page, except for toll-free numbers and local numbers, in which case there is no charge to send the fax.
Library has available a “Freedom Machine” which will display a magnified image of your text or photographs.
Reference
The Library offers a reference service that will find information for you. From geography to business, travel information to biology, antiques to zoology, reference staff will research your question and forward the information to you. Stop in or call.
Groups
The summer reading program features five, fun-filled sessions centered on a theme, such as "Discover New Trails at Caro Library;" Pre-registration is usually required.
Book group for adults meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. Members read the same book prior to the meeting, and then discuss their impressions of the book.
The Friends of the Library (FOCAL) sponsor book sales and other activities for the benefit of the Library. They are always happy to welcome more helping hands.
Reserves and Inter-Library Loan
If a book the library owns is not available, you may request that it be reserved for you. Then when it comes in, you will be called and the book will be held for you to pick up. Material ordered and not picked up will be charged a fee of $1.00 per item.
If the Library does not own the title you want, the library can usually borrow it for you from another library, usually at no cost to you. It can take from several days to two weeks or more to receive the item.
Community Room
The community room of the library is available for use by non-profit groups and workshops. Sorry, it is not available for private parties. Contact the Library for more information.
