Archival Collections and Resources

About the Archives

The Archival Collections and Resources are a function of the Caro Area District Library reference services.  As such, the archives seeks to provide information of a historical nature. The archives operates within the mission of the public Library of which it is a part, and the archival collections reflect the nature of public libraries. The archives seeks to serve the following: Historical information needs of residents of the Caro Area community and historical information about the Caro Area community and past residents.

 

Archives Policies

An important obligation of the archives is to protect the archival collections and resources for the use of future generations. Therefore, the following rules will apply to persons using the collections:

The user must be at least 18 years of age, and be able to provide identification upon request.

 

The user must have a Caro Area District Library card in good standing, with no late materials or fines, or be eligible for a card and have valid identification.

 

Materials will be used only in the assigned archival reading area, near the circulation desk.

 

Archival materials cannot be taken from the Library.

 

Materials are to be used only by the person who requested them. Archival materials will be made available one item at a time.  The item must be returned before another is made available.

 

The materials may be fragile and must be handled with care and respect.

 

Materials cannot be written on, cut, torn, folded, or in any way damaged.While copies may be made of some materials, many cannot be copied without causing damage to the originals.

 

Be prepared to hand-copy the information you want from the archives, and please consult the library staff before making photocopies of archival materials.

 


Archival materials, and an individual's privilege to access the materials, may be withdrawn at any time by the library in order to protect the collections.
